My Experiences With Global BPO
Outsourcing is nothing new. In fact Bill Gates, IBM and 90% of the Fortune 500 have been doing it for over 2 decades. What has changed is the availability of outsourcing infrastructure. Previously, BPO resources were only attainable to large firms but due to globalization and a few pioneers like myself, these same advantages are well within reach for small and mid-sized companies.
BPO is an ever growing, ever changing market. My first experience with global BPO was in 2004 when I contracted a small call center out of India to run a pilot telemarketing campaign to generate real estate leads. As it was my first time the process took months to get off the ground and I ended up spending tens of thousand of dollars. 9 months later I and found myself on a plane headed for Bangalore, India and was able to expand the team from 5 agents to 50 within 6 months. I founded The Lead Tree, LLC which focused primarily on lead generation using call center processes, search engine optimization and software development to build CRM systems including our own propitiatory lead management software.
Philippines BPO
It wasn’t long before I noticed a trend of big companies starting to outsource in the Philippines so in mid 2006 I got a wild hunch and went to Manila to meet potential outsourcing partners. By 2007, The Lead Tree and it’s partners had grown to employ over 118 people in the US, India and the Philippines.
The instinct was right as Philippines has since become the ideal place for voice processes while India and Romania still remain dominate players in non-voice processes, IT and software development.
Customer Spotlight
I have managed outsourcing processes to India and the Philippines for hundreds of small and midsized companies as well as a few large firms including New York Life, Countrywide Financial and AIG.
Through the process of my outsourcing career I have also been contracted by variety of offshore BPO companies from large, 1000+ seat facilities to the 50 seat startup. As a result I have consulted on a wide range of outsourcing processes including database management, call center outsourcing, lead generation/management, SEO outsourcing, web development and customized software solutions.
